Last time we shared with you the dilemma people face in choosing a Building Contractor for their next extension or refurbishment. CLICK HERE to read.
Think about this, if you are planning to visit a place you’ve never been to before it would be sensible to use a map or a tracker in order to get to where you want to be saving you time and the frustration of being late. The same principle applies when planning to build an extension, new home or a major refurb. Contact an Architect and maybe even use a Quantity Surveyor to ensure your limited budget provides no surprises and the advice is built on construction experience.
You may have a clear idea of what you want to build but converting your dream into a reality will require the services of a construction professional. The fact is you will probably not save money by doing it yourself. There are problems that require solutions which can be well managed by an experienced Construction professional. Our director Chris Patching is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (MCIOB). He is also an experienced Project Manager working on projects in excess of £M’s. So, he is a safe pair of hands when wanting to discuss your project. You can review his profile on LINKEDIN here.
If you are looking for a reputable Building Contractor then often the best way is usually a recommendation from a family member, neighbour, or friend. Once you have identified 2 or 3 Contractors invite each one to the site for a meeting to discuss your plans. Its worth knowing your budget and the purpose of the planned work. Writing a brief may help to articulate your project requirements with the Contractor so they can get a feel for what you want to achieve.
Next time we’ll take a look at the tendering process.
