The Role of a Project Manager – Part 1

So, you are planning to have an extension constructed, a new build property, or maybe a new development? Where do you start? This project will be one of the biggest investments you make and getting it right is critical. If you have not embarked on a building project before it is a very good investment to appoint an experienced Project Manager. He/she will organize the activity related to a complex building process, delegate work to bona fide Contractors, and keep track of the budget.

Project Managers Give us peace of mind

We are all aware of someone who thought they could simply call a builder, and get a quote, and off they go with no engagement with Planners, an Architect, or an Engineer. Stories of disappointment when the client is told that the scheme is going to run over budget and take another three or four months to complete abound. Then there is the problem of snagging and the phone calls and emails to get the builder back to sort out the various problems discovered later. Stress!

A Safe Pair of Hands

This is where, as I mentioned earlier the role of the Project Manager becomes an integral part of the Planning and delivery of Construction projects. He or she will ensure that you, the client will have a safe pair of hands working on your behalf and assisting with the development of a proposal to submit to the Council for Planning and or Building Regulations. The Project Manager will make sure that what is proposed is likely to be accepted and receive the green light from the relevant authorities.
